Pie Rule

The Pie Rule is a way of overcoming the unfairness of starting in a game with a first-player advantage.

One player starts and makes a move. The other player can then choose:

• To accept this move and play second, or
• To swap places and become the first player, using this move as their first move.

It is named after the procedure for dividing a pie fairly between two people, in which one person divides and the other chooses.
