Snort

History

Snort is the counterpart of Col, except that in Col adjacent regions must be different colours. Despite their similarity Snort is mathematically more complex to analyse.

The game was invented by Simon Norton, and was described and analysed in: Conway, John Horton. On Numbers and Games. New York: Academic Press, 1976. 91.

The game was described in terms of two farmers, one of whom wants to graze bulls, and the other wants to graze cows. Neighboring fields may not contain cattle of the opposite sex.

A fuller analysis was given in: Berlekamp, Elwyn R., John H. Conway, and Richard K. Guy. Winning Ways for your Mathematical Plays - Volume 1. New York: Academic Press, 1982. 141-143.
